1. Mouthfail, p. 14
And that concludes MOUTHFAIL (thank goodness already, amiright?). Originally conceived and created for the catalog of the AND I MUST SCREAM exhibition curated by Amanda Hellman at the Carlos Museum in Atlanta. The catalog is available in its entirety online, which I thoroughly recommend checking out. Lots of powerful art and thought-provoking essays. It’s also interesting to see MOUTHFAIL presented in that particular context, one where one wouldn’t necessarily expect to see comix.
2. Afikra Podcast
Yes, there was once a time when that’s what I looked like. Mark your calendars for a live sesh of the Afikra podcast where we discuss that particular issue (not really) as well as all things art and live. Dec 7th, 10:00am EST.
3. Status
I skipped a week, I know. Not intentionally, I swear. Got caught up in a bit of travel last weekend before I could hit the send button. Was in Dearborn/Detroit for a 3-day gathering at the Arab American National Museum, where two of my pieces (IMMIGRANT BLUES #4 & 5) are currently on display at their CULTIVATE & GROW exhibition.
I had such a great time convening with so many amazing thinkers in real live meatspace, and even managed to carve out some time to crash Saladin Ahmed and Dave Acosta’s DRAGON signing at Vault of Midnight (where I also picked up a couple other great finds on discount; LUTHER ARKWRIGHT and IRONWOLF, hello!).
Saladin and I have been Twitter mutuals for a time, and it was great to finally meet in person before the platform’s imminent bust. I see a lot of people freaking out about that. I’m kind of in the about-freakin’-time/good-riddance camp, but it may be because I feel like I’m going into another one of my reclusive moods. I’m just tired of screens to be honest, and anything that might reduce screen usage in my life is most welcomed.
On which note, RESTRICTED FREQUENCY will be going on hiatus again. I quite enjoyed having MOUTHFAIL as a piece of ready-made “content” that I could release through the newsletter on a regular basis, and am inclined to recede into my secret lair for a time to produce things in their entirety before exposing them to the world.
I will likely still be blogging and ‘graming, with more time hopefully devoted to the former. 🤞
Talk soon,
Ganzeer
